This work is not written by a theologian, but by someone who wanted to know God more deeply through the words He has given us.
A short introduction
I am a microbiologist by education, working in the pharmaceutical industry and living what, from the outside, may seem like an ordinary life. Yet behind that ordinary life was a heart far from ordinary devotion, a life carrying its own struggles, weaknesses, and sins.
One day, while studying the Bible more closely, I began comparing translations and looking into the original languages of Scripture. What began as simple curiosity slowly became something much deeper. I began to notice that words such as Holy One, Rock, Redeemer, Father, Light, Shepherd, King, and many others were not merely descriptions placed in our Bibles. They were ways in which Scripture itself revealed who God is and how He had made Himself known to His people.
That discovery changed the way I read Scripture. I began asking: Where did this name first appear? Why was it revealed there? What was happening in that moment? What did it mean to the people who first heard it? And how did Scripture continue to use it? What began with one question became a journey through Scripture. With the constant encouragement and support of my mother, I began gathering these discoveries, studying the passages, comparing the language and translations, and putting them together here.
These pages are the learnings gathered along that journey.
If even one person comes to know Him a little more through them, then the journey has been worthwhile.
Learnings through the journey
- A name revealed is an invitation to know the One who revealed it.
- God did not give us many gods to discover, but many ways to discover the One God.
- Every name carries a story; every story reveals His heart.
- To know His Name is to remember that He has made Himself known.
- His names are not merely words we speak; they are revelations we are invited to live.
- The God who sees is the God who stays; the God who saves is the God who seeks; the God who redeems is the God who remembers.
- In the wilderness He provides; in the battle He becomes our banner; in the darkness He becomes our light.
- His holiness does not place Him beyond us; His holiness calls us toward Him.
- Behind every name stands the same eternal God, revealing Himself one story at a time.
Life, truth and testimony
There was a phase of my life filled with complete darkness and utter confusion. Somewhere along the way, I had left my God behind, only to discover that
He had been sitting right beside me all along.
I attended church. I went to confession. Outwardly, the practices of faith were still there, but inwardly, my faith had long grown silent. Until one day, I asked a question. The response came first as an overwhelming sense of His presence, and the following day, through a wondrous sign that I could not simply dismiss.
My problems did not resolve. My troubles did not disappear. Life did not suddenly become easier.
But something in me changed.
I found the courage I needed but never had, and the patience I had never known how to hold. Slowly, I began to understand something I had forgotten.
I have relationships with my family, my friends, my acquaintances and the people I meet throughout life.
But with my Adonai, I have a covenant. It was a covenant I had forgotten. He had not.
And so today, amid questions I may never have answered and roads I may not always understand, I try to live by one vow I made to myself:
“To pray that His will be done, and that I never ask why.”
